Vol.2 contains all tracks from the second cassette album "Brainwaves" which I released in June 1991 in an numbered edition of 100 copies with a white insert and a coloured cover. The numbers 44 to 65 had a blue insert, a special edition which were bought by the british tape-label "Electronical Dreams".
All tracks were recorded in May and June 1991 with the same equipment than its predecessor. Sequences and glissandos were done with the Sinclair ZX Spectrum who controlled the Korg MS20 Synthesizer. An attempt to control the Moog Prodigy failed, because the tuning of this synthesizer drifted down a semitone in 10 minutes. Not usable.
Again, the only effect I used, was the tape delay of the Philips tape machine. A basic track was recorded on cassette first, then played back with adding more sounds and instruments, while recording with echo.
Most of the tracks are very busy and contain excessive synth noodling, something I never did in that extreme way again. No guitar this time...
All tracks were mastered in 24bit directly from the old echo tapes. Mastering compressors and EQs were used.
Here again, some tracks are slightly shorter, because I had to edit out several tape drop outs and bad parts. All the tracks took a benefit from editing.
Beyond Forever
The First track which I recorded for this album. Quality is a little Lo-Fi, because of the very slow running speed of the tape machine, which produces longer echos. The sound is very compressed, the result of tape saturation. The levels were really hot.
Moonrising / Journey to the black planet
Both tracks are classic berlin school with double synth noodling.
Brainwaves
For this track I had the opportunity to edit this version from 3 different takes. On the original cassette, the third take was used, but also the other 2 had its merits.
Yellow Path
Rhythmless Sounds. This track had the most tape drop outs, which were edited out.
Green Valley
fake phasing mellotron with moog noodling. Some bad parts were edited out.

DJM is an absolute master at getting that early TD sound. If you sat me in the dark and put this on and told me TD had landed back on Earth I wouldn't give it a second thought..gorgeous stuff. Robert Wallace

If this is the scraps and discarded remains of the first album then get the broom out and sweep that studio in case you've missed anything!..very strong and atmospheric music and so glad you put it together Dirk. Robert Wallace

Nice variety of sounds on this one. It's got some ZEIT in there and some driving rhythms, quiet reflective moments and big beats. Greasy is a beaut. Robert Wallace
